Celles-ci, vues à Kuremäe en Estonie, font la hauteur des granges et des bouleaux environnants. À Montreuil enfin, au pied du parc des Guilands, la réplique d’une pile, faite des bûches de la châtaigneraie. Dorénavant, la sculpture sert d’habitat pour une faune locale ou de passage. J’ai un rencart avec une femme, son mari, son beau-père pour charger trois cuves à mazout dans la camionnette que je viens de louer (la mienne est trop petite). Ils · elles habitent au n°3 de la rue, les parents au n°1, deux maisons en briques accolées. Ils · elles portent le même nom polonais, celui de l’aîné. Ils · elles ont pensé un jour isoler leurs maisons, y installer le chauffage central, le confort moderne quoi. Ce sera finalement trop de travaux, trop de frais, et puis le fioul coûte maintenant plus d’un euro le litre. On boit alors le café auprés d’un poêle à charbon (comme autrefois), ou plutôt du poêle à fioul bricolé, chargé de charbon. Juste à côté, la télé n’est pas éteinte. Seul le son est coupé. Les archives des grandes filatures, les tableaux des demeures des notables, les outils des fermes, les souvenirs des maisons ouvrières sont conservés dans son musée de folklore. franchir le passage difficile dit Le Mauvais Pas, il y avait une échelle. Elle avait été bricolée là pour faciliter l'accès en ce point où les Alpes forcent à la marche verticale. Alternatif à la nouvelle route, le sentier est toujours aussi abrupt. Un escalier remplace maintenant l'ancienne échelle et préserve le détroit accessible. Aujourd’hui, dans les vallées de la Durance et de la Clarée, sur le chemin de Bardonecchia à Embrun, tout le monde possède une échelle. On la trouve dans chaque maison, grange, atelier, remise, sur les toits des voitures et contre les arbres. Elle est sortie pour les travaux quotidiens ou saisonniers, parfois laissée seule à l’ouvrage.
